ABOUT
Sam is an international music producer, songwriter and mixer. He works on projects around the world both remotely and on location, recently spending time in the US, China, Africa and Europe.
Sam started his career around small London studios before moving to France to work with James Sanger and then back to London to work at Westside studios with Mike Hedges. After this period he became Chief Engineer at the world famous Metropolis Studios in London and over his seven years at the helm there, he worked with numerous multi-platinum, top ten and number 1 artists, including Pharell Williams, Rihanna, Paloma Faith, John Legend, Amy Winehouse, Nitin Sawnhey, Van Morrison and many more.
In this time Sam also worked on the Grammy winning Album 'Damn' by Kendrick Lamar and recorded the Oscar-winning title song 'Glory' by Common and John Legend for the film 'Selma'.
At Metropolis he also headed up the revival of the 'Live to Vinyl' recording technique. In this format the artist plays live and is mixed and mastered in real time before being recorded direct to acetate disk. The 'Live to Vinyl' sessions became legendary, spawning a two season Channel 4 TV show featuring artists like Ellie Goulding, James Morrison, Foals, Manic Street Preachers, The Maccabees and The Drums to name a few
Sam is also a specialist in mixing live shows for DVD. After mixing The Rolling Stones' legendary concert from Hyde Park in 1969 Sam was confirmed to work on 4 further releases including Live at the LA Forum, 1975 and No Security Tour of 1999. He has also worked on live shows by Roni Size, Kelis and Public Enemy among others delivering in both stereo and 5.1.
The Netflix commissioned project 'Once In A Lifetime' sessions has seen Sam busy in 2018 to show the winding careers of fascinating artists such as Noel Gallagher, TLC, Moby and legendary Nile Rodgers. Sam was chief recording engineer and mixer across these sessions and features in the series, currently available on Netflix US.
Although his main focus is mixing, Sam is highly skilled across all aspects of studio work, making him an all-round go-to talent for artists and projects of all shapes and sizes, anywhere in the world.
